11 February 2021, Vreni Schneider, three-time overall winner of the Alpine Ski World Cup, is getting ready to hit the ski slopes. She takes part in the Alpine Ski World Cup, equipped with the same equipment that led her to victory in 89. She hopes to win first place in the competition, as she did several times in the past.<\/p>\n

On March 28th of the same year, race driver Alain Prost stands behind the starting line of the first race of the Formula 1 World Championship. Four-time world champion in the 80s, he is hoping for another victory at the wheel of his trusty McLaren MP4\/2B, the car with which he won the 1985 World Cup.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The outcome<\/p>\n

<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The starting signal sounds, Prost and Schneider take off on the tracks. They give the best of themselves, but in spite of that, they can't manage to keep up with the other sportsmen and women - too much delay, lack of precision, technical problems. As soon as the finish line is crossed, the result is unmistakable: no first place for Prost and Schneider, they didn't measure up to the competition.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The issue<\/p>\n

<\/h2>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

If the two ex-champions didn't manage to obtain new victories, it's not because they lost their talent or because the level of the competition is higher than theirs. No, if they have had so many difficulties it is because the equipment they have used in these competitions does not measure up to the more modern equipment of the other participants.<\/p>\n

But if Prost's coach advised him to swap his old McLaren for a car model similar to Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes W11 and Schneider's coach advised him to opt for the same light and flexible skis as Mikaela Shiffrin, the two ex-champions would probably give today's competitors a hard time.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
