ISO 20022 standard
The international standard ISO 20022 was introduced in Switzerland in July 2018 to simplify and regulate payment traffic.
It is based on the ISO standard introduced to standardise and unify the dimensions of shipping containers in order to facilitate the loading, transport and storage of goods.
Over the years, financial transactions have become more numerous and complex, a growth accentuated by globalisation. Previously, different international standards and norms made the exchange of payment data laborious, as each was equivalent to its own communication language. This made it more difficult for the various players in the financial centre, such as banks, SMEs and the self-employed, to communicate with each other as they all sent messages in a different language.
The Swiss transfer and direct debit procedures of banks, for example, are now standardised on the basis of the ISO 20022 standard.
The ISO 20022 standard has since been introduced to act as a “common language” for all financial institutions and thus harmonise every payment procedure, standard and format.
This standard simplifies the process, improves data quality and contributes to better monitoring of the process as well as more transparency and speed.
The introduction of e-invoice and QR-invoice is part of the ongoing process of harmonising and modernising payment transactions, of which the ISO 20022 standard is part.
MCA Kale is ISO 20022 certified and also supports e-invoice and QR-invoice. For payment traffic that works with the times and evolves with the digital age.
