ISO 20022 standard
The international standard ISO 20022 was introduced in Switzerland in July 2018 to simplify and regulate payment traffic.
It is based on the ISO standard introduced to standardise and unify the dimensions of shipping containers in order to facilitate the loading, transport and storage of goods.
Over the years, financial transactions have become more numerous and complex, a growth accentuated by globalisation. Previously, different international standards and norms made the exchange of payment data laborious, as each was equivalent to its own communication language. This made it more difficult for the various players in the financial centre, such as banks, SMEs and the self-employed, to communicate with each other as they did not all share the same language.
The ISO 20022 standard has since been established to act as a “common language” for all financial institutions in order to harmonise payment procedures, standards and formats.
This standard simplifies the process, improves data quality and contributes to better monitoring of the process as well as more transparency and speed.
The introduction of e-bill and QR-invoice is part of the ongoing process of harmonising and modernising payment traffic, of which the ISO 20022 standard is part.
MCA Kale is ISO 20022 certified and also supports e-bills and QR-invoices. For payment transactions that work with the times and evolve with the digital age.
